Becoming a Member
One of the most innovative and important features of this elder housing concept is that future residents get involved in many aspects of the development process long before the homes are completed. This includes member input on site design, marketing, community building and post occupancy policies. Involving group members in the early stages of development creates a strong and supportive community among the future neighbors.
The success of an elder housing cluster requires the ongoing participation of its membership. In the Elder Housing at Prospect three membership levels are available - Observer, Associate Member and Full Member. The requirements and privileges of each level are described below.
Observer
Requirements
• No financial requirements.
Privileges
• May attend all Elder Housing meetings.
• May attend certain workshops.
• May observe but not participate in group decision making.
• May receive regular email communications.
Associate Member
Requirements
• Pay $100 non-refundable fee.
• Familiarize yourself with the Elder Housing concept (reading materials are included with membership).
• Participate in regular group meetings.
• Take on tasks between meetings.
• Obtain pre-approval for mortgage on your future home.
Privileges
• May attend all Elder Housing meetings.
• May participate in all workshops.
• May participate in all ongoing activities and decision-making but are not allowed to block a group decision.
• May receive regular email communications.
Full Member
Requirements
• All requirements of Associate Membership
• Pay a $1,500 deposit towards the purchase of your home.
Privileges
• In addition to all privileges list above, as a Full Member you are entitled to participate in all ongoing activities and decision- making.
• At the time of becoming a full member you receive a place in line to select the home of your choice.
• Qualify to receive matching funds for participation in all workshops related to the Elder Housing cluster. For example, if you pay a $100 workshop fee, this $100 goes toward the down payment of your home AND, the project builder/developer, will match the $100 to give you a $200 credit toward your home purchase. Sample workshop may include creating a vision statement, consensus decision making, and site programming.
